I'm Auke, born at 18 Februari 1984 at Joure, Friesland, The
Netherlands. Joure is the place where I'm born and lived for a long
time. After my secondary school I went for half a year studying
in Groningen, were I studied Economics but it wasn't were I was
looking for and as I mentioned I stopped with this study after half a
year. The next half year I worked for Roel Wester B.V., the builder of
the fameous Dutch Splash Youth Sailing Class!
In September 2003 my Hydrographic career started at the Martitiem
Instituut Willem Barentz at Terschelling. At Terschelling, an Island in
the north of the Netherlands, I got my bachelor in Hydrographic
Surveying. In the 4 years of my study there, I had a great internship
with Boskalis, I've been in Barrow in Furness, Guinea and in Holland.
To finish my bachelor I made my Thesis together with Lotte Schuitema at
the Dutch Directorate of Public Works and Watermanagement in Delft.

For this thesis, I met John Hughes Clarke, and got in contact with the
University of New Brunswick. As you can see in the thesis, we used the
software of the Ocea Mapping Group, to make wobble analysis for the
research. After I was finished with my bachelor, I decided to go
to Canada, and study Geodesy and Geomatics at the University of New
Brunswick. Currently I'm studying here with thanks to the Dutch Navy
and the Dutch Directorate of Public Works and Water Management. I'm
involved in research on Water Column Imaging for the Dutch Navy, for
who I also will write my thesis about this most beautiful tool Water
Column Imaging! Also I'm still involved in wobble analysis for the
Dutch Government of Public Works and Watermanagement.
My biggest hobby is sailing.. well if it is still a hobby. I sailed
splash for a long time, and did well! Last 2 years I sailed together
with Hidde-jan and Don in the Yngling. A 3 men keelboat! My biggest
succes was this year with the boys at the worlds yngling. We beat the
olympic girls teams, and became world champion!! After we became a week
before youth europeans champions! Unbelievable!! Also we won the
fameous Sneekweek, and I became Dutch Champion in the Flash Class, a
one men dinghy!
